With the record setting drought continuing, the Missouri Department of Agriculture and Missouri Department of Transportation are working together to bring some help to farmers.

MoDOT announced it will be allowing farmers to transport loads 10 percent heavier then their licensed weight. Community Relations Specialist with MoDot in St. Joseph, Travis Ellis says with this allowance comes precautions that need to be taken with the drivers.

Ellis says farmers taking advantage of the overweight loads may not drive on interstate routes or national defense highway routes. When crossing bridges, speed must be reduced to 30 miles per hour, and its important to remember this is only for the state of Missouri.
