Missouri House Speaker says No to Special Session

Missouri Speaker of the House Steven Tilley turned down a request from State Senator Brad Lager of Savannah for a special session of the Missouri General Assembly regarding mandates from President Obama's Affordable Health Care Act.

The U-S Supreme Court recently upheld provisions from the law. Lager...also a Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor...had sent a letter to Tilley as well as Governor Jay Nixon and Senate President Pro-tem Robert Mayer calling for a special session so the legislature can take the action necessary to opt-out of the mandates and expansions of the Health Care Law. Tilley says he cannot support a special session for several reasons including the cost to taxpayers of the session. Tilley says there's nothing the legislature could do with a special session that cannot wait until the legislature returns for regular session.
