Blunt/McCaskell push for Drought Disaster Relief

Coffey

MO (2012-07-12)

Missouri's two U-S Senators Roy Blunt and Claire McCaskell are urging U-S Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to move forward on Missouri Governor Jay Nixon's request for a primary disaster declaration for 114 counties in the state.

Nixon is asking for the declaration as a result of losses incurred by farmers and ranchers due to extreme drought conditions. Many Missouri farmers have suffered significant losses to crops, pasture and livestock as a result of the record breaking heat and low precipitation. The Missouri legislators say a disaster designation would give eligible producers the additional support they need by allowing them to qualify for F-S-A emergency loans, emergency grazing and haying and other financial assistance. Governor Nixon sent his request to Secretary Vilsack on Tuesday.
