Missouri treasurer Clint Zweifel says Missouri is in a good position if debt talks fail and the federal government's bond rating is downgraded.
He points to Missouri's triple-A rating one of just 8 states to have that classification by all three major bond agencies. Zweifel concedes a federal government downgrade will be felt by everyone in the public and private sector, but maintains he's trying to invest state tax dollars in liquid and secure investments now, to head off a downgrade-drive disaster.
Zweifel says his office is especially interested in continuing to provide low-interest loans to smaller Missouri employers pointing out small business growth is 75% of all job growth in a growing economy.
