A National Guard soldier who had just been released from north Missouri flood fight duty has died from a crash near Kansas City.
Private first class Jordan House of Independence was released from duty on Monday and was traveling from the Maryville Armory to the Independence Armory when the personal vehicle he was in crashed on southbound Interstate 435 just before 1 O'clock Monday. The last mission House helped with was providing security checkpoints in Holt county for the flood mission. He also served on several sandbagging missions in Forest City and Carroll county and earned the Army Service ribbon, National Defense Service medal, and State Emergency Duty ribbon. 2 other soldiers from the Independence unit were injured in the accident. Adjutant general of the Missouri National Guard major general Steve Danner says they are keeping close ties with all the families involved.
