Heat Impacting Crops

As the heat beats down on our listening area and the lack of rain continues, northwest Missouri crops are showing signs of stress.

Crop specialist say late planted crops are severely suffering with the current conditions, corn is "Rolling" meaning the plant is drawing on reserves so it can survive. Also soybeans are moving towards the "Seed Fill Stage". This is when the seed starts to produce and many plants are showing signs of wilting which will affect yields. University of Missouri Extension agronomy specialist Wayne Flanary says producers should keep a watchful eye.

Flanary adds the heat and lack of rain is a regional problem so local grain prices might suffer however many surrounding states have seen adequate rainfall.
