Graves on Debt Talks

Wayman

MARYVILLE, MO (2011-07-19)

North Missouri congressman Sam Graves says he's for the Cut, Cap, and Balance bill expected to be voted on today as debt ceiling negotiations continue.

Graves is one of more than a hundred house members that have sent a letter of support for the proposal to the speaker and majority leader in the house. The White House calls the bill a quote-"Empty Political Statement". But Graves tells us his fellow Republicans are sticking firm to cutting spending if they approve a debt ceiling increase, which he says would be a short-term raise.

The Cut, Cap and Balance bill advocates a constitutional amendment to keep the federal budget balanced. The Obama Administration says that level of action is not necessary.
