Water Treatment

Wayman

MARYVILLE, MO (2010-07-13) Maryville is one step closer to it's new 8-point-8 million dollar Wastewater Treatment Plant.

During last night's City Council meeting members agreed to move forward with an "M-B-B-R" system... which uses thousands of plastic wheels covered with bacteria to lower phosphorus and nitrogen levels at the wastewater plant.

Those levels have to come down based on a directive from government environmental regulators.

Maryville City Manager Matt LaCurf says he expects the Department of Natural Resources to approve the plan- hopefully by the end of this year.

The Maryville City Council also tabled a proposed ordinance that would ban all smoking inside and outside in workplaces within Maryville.

The Council will be working on the wording of that proposed ordinance and is expected to bring the issue up again at its August meeting.
