MARYVILLE, MO (2010-07-13) The University in Maryville has received its largest cash gift in history.
The gift to Northwest Missouri State is 2 million dollars.
It is the entire estate of the late Rolland and Maxine Deardorff of Stanton, Nebraska.
Rolland was raised in Maryville by his grandmother and graduated from Horace Mann High School on the Northwest campus in 1933.
They married in 1945 and lived for a year at Pickering.
In the 1950's the couple purchased the Stanton Telephone Company and operated it for 35 years before selling it in 1980.
University officials say the record gift will create an annual scholarship to be awarded to a full time Northwest Missouri State student with at least a 3-point-0 G-P-A with academic achievement and financial need as the leading criteria.
