Columbia, MO (2010-07-07) Arts groups across Missouri are scrambling to figure out how to adjust to major budget cuts this recession.
The arts were one of the first items cut to try and balance the budget as required by state law.
The Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts in Columbia is one such victim and C-E-O Eric Staley has resigned after 10 months on the job.
He warns because of state cuts arts organizations will have to rely more heavily on "Community Challenge" donations.
Staley says groups might even have to re-organize to survive... much like the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts may have to.
The state's umbrella group helping local arts performances- the Missouri Arts Council- had more than 5 and a half million dollars cut from its nearly 10 million dollar budget during this year's legislative session.
