MARYVILLE, MO (2010-07-12) How much does a community event impact the economy?
The Maryville Chamber is finding: quite a bit.
Surveys went out to participants in the recent Maryville Marathon.... to gauge the economic impact of people coming in for the race.
More than 270 runners were registered for this year's Marathon... and 81 percent of those runners involved live outside of Nodaway County.
While they were here 56 percent said they shopped at a local store.... and nearly 60 percent went to a Maryville restaurant or bar.
The majority said they spent anywhere from 26 to one hundred dollars while out.
The chamber says the June Maryville Marathon is a great way to introduce outsiders to the city and make a first impression.
