Hiawatha Commission

Wayman

Hiawatha, Ks. (2010-07-06) The Hiawatha City Commission agrees on the charges that two townships will pay for fire protection.

The Commission and Mayor decided to take the 3 year average of fire calls from the Hiawatha Township and the Padonia (puh-done-ee-uh) Township.

By averaging the calls, it was determined 18 percent of the fire budget was used by the Hiawatha Township... 5 and a half percent for the Padonia Township.

The averages will increase the amount Hiawatha Township pays to the city.... but decrease expenses for Padonia.

Mayor Gernon says this is the only way to be fair to city residents.
