Algae Plant Expansion

Wayman

Shenandoah, Ia. (2010-07-22) Southwest Iowa officials call it a "Game Changer".

Members of the Iowa Power Fund Board of Directors approve a 2 million dollar matching grant for phase two of the Green Plains Renewable Energy Algae Plant in Shenandoah.

The Algae Plant will start now on "Phase 2"- expanding algae-produced gas energy by 20 times.

This second phase is also the last one before commercialization.

Greg Connell is the Executive Vice President of the Shenandoah Chamber and Industry Association.

He envisions this phase as boosting economic development for the region.

Construction on the 4 and a half million dollar phase 2 expansion of the algae plant is slated to start this upcoming Tuesday and should be online after October.
