Pertussis Outbreaks in Daviess

Prokes

Daviess County, MO (2009-07-02) Recent outbreaks of Pertussis (pur- tus - sus) or Whooping Cough have been detected in Daviess County and surrounding areas.

That's according to Cheryl Alexander, Davies County

Health Department Administrator.

Alexander emphatically urges people and their children to

seek immunization at their local health departments.

Alexander reports people who contract pertussis have

painful coughing spasms accompanied by a loud "whooping"

sound. It is highly contagious, so Alexander urges infected

people to stay home so as not to spread sickness through

coughing and sneezing.
