MARYVILLE, MO (2009-07-28) The man accused of shooting at a Northwest Missouri Highway Patrolman during a brief standoff north of Maryville continues through the justice system.
Richard Helm was a transient from California who allegedly broke into an empty house in February of this year.
When law enforcement arrived, they say he started to point a gun at a Highway Patrolman inside the house and was shot in the arm.
Helm faces assault and armed criminal action charges in the case.
At yesterday's preliminary hearing a 60 day mental health evaluation was ordered for Helm, who's set to appear in court again in the fall.
