Columbia, MO (2009-07-14) Two Central Missouri men have been arrested after allegedly holding up several banks- including the Brookfield-Purdin Bank branch in Winigan.
The U-S Attorney's office in Kansas City says 28 year old William Wolfe of Fulton and 18 year old Michael Leak of Columbia were arrested after a shoot-out with authorities in Holden Missouri.
Federal authorities think the duo are responsible for the bank robbery in Winnigan on July 2nd where more than 25 thousand dollars were stolen.
Several days later the two allegedly repeated an armed robbery- this time at a bank in Clarence Missouri.
Investigators say they were caught after reportedly robbing the F and C bank in Holden Missouri.
Police say a sheriff's deputy tried to stop them when Wolfe opened fire and hit the vehicle several times, as well as shooting out the Holden Police Chief's windshield.
Investigators say the pair also left behind a string of damaged vehicles, including burning Wolfe's vehicle and a stolen flatbed truck found submerged in the Missouri River.
Leak was traced to a Super 7 hotel room in Columbia. His alleged accomplice was arrested afterward.
