HOLT COUNTY, MO. (2010-1-28) The sunshine but cold winds make for a potentially dangerous combination for one winter time sport: Ice Fishing.
Holt County extension agent Russ Shifflit says we're in the peak ice-fishing season now, as species like Cropie and Bluegill remain active even in near frozen ponds and lakes. But he says this winter's weather calls for ice fishermen to use caution. Shifflit suggests you look for ponds or lakes that are open and exposed to the wind which means most of that insulating snow would have blown off in theory making the ice thicker and safter for fishing.
