MARYVILLE, MO (2010-1-29) Judicial officials from 5 Northwest Missouri Counties come together to tackle the issue of heavy case loads.
For three consecutive months the numbers of cases in the 4th judicial circuit have exceeded the maximum number predicted. The citizen-paid public defender acts as an attorney for those facing jail time but that can't afford to hire an attorney. Late yesterday afternoon public defenders and prosecutors met in Maryville to discuss the case loads. 4th circuit judge Roger Prokes says there are a couple of reasons the players were brought to the table. A member of the State Public Defender's Office for our region was also at the case load meeting.
