MARYVILLE, MO (2010-1-25) KXCV news has learned Maryville R-2 school administrators are warning parents of an ongoing danger that threatens actual death of students in Maryville.
The problem is: some of them are reportedly doing it to themselves. A letter has gone out to parents warning the so-called "Choking Game" has been discovered happening in the Maryville community. That's where kids use various choking methods to cut off blood flow and oxygen to the brain. The kids can get a "Rush" and in some cases can even pass out. But the national trend has now come to Maryville and nationally it has been fatal to those who participate. Even without killing people, the choking game has a record of causing brain damage, seizures, hemorrhaging, and even strokes in children. The principal of the Maryville middle school calls the recent interest among Maryville students "Scary" and is asking for parents not to dismiss the activity but talk with their children and take the dangers seriously.
