Warrensburg, MO (2013-01-28)

The Northwest Missouri State women's and men's basketball teams lost a couple of hard-fought games Saturday to Central Missouri in Warrensburg.

In the women's game...the Bearcats jumped out to a 14-0 lead before losing to the Jennies 60-52.  Bearcat women's head coach Mark Kellogg says several things worked against his team.

Maggie Marnin led Northwest with 14 points and 7 rebounds and Annie Mathews had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Northwest with the loss falls to 10-7 overall and 4-5 in the MIAA...while 16th-ranked Central Missouri improves to 15-2 and 7-2.

In the men's game, Northwest was up by one at halftime only to lose...by ten 60-50. The Bearcats played most of the game without Dillion Starzl, who left with a knee injury after taking a charge in the first half. Bearcat men's head coach Ben McCollum says the big difference in the game was Northwest giving up more offensive rebounds to the Mules in the second half.

The Bearcat men fall to 13-5 overall and 6-3 in the conference...the Mules improve to 14-3 and 8-1 in the MIAA. Up next for Northwest...home games Thursday evening when they host Northeastern State. The women's game tips off at 5:30 and the men at 7:30.
