Frozen Pipe Myths

During the winter months it is important to not only keep yourself warm, but your plumbing as well.

During this time of the year, pipes have a tendency to freeze, possibly bursting and causing considerable damage to the home. Media Relations Manager for the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety, Joseph King, says there are several misconceptions people have about frozen pipes.

Along with this, King says if your home has frozen pipes you should remember to never use a blowtorch on the pipe, as it could cause significant fire damage. King adds that using a hair dryer aimed at the pipe will slowly and effectively defrost the pipe and prevent possible bursting.
