MARYVILLE, MO (2012-01-24)
The total firearms deer harvest for Missouri is up over 7,000 more than last years.
This year the total amount of deer was just shy of 239,000. Deer biologist Jason Sumners of the Missouri Department of Conservation says they have been working to bring down deer populations to reduce crop damage, deer-vehicle accidents and other deer nuisance problems. Sumner adds that there are fewer does in the population today that there were 6 or 8 years ago. The conservation department says deer hunting in Missouri generates over 1 billion dollars in business and creates over 11,000 jobs.
