MARYVILLE, MO (2011-01-13) Premium Standard Farms says it's ahead of schedule for installiing barn scraper technology at its north Missouri sites.
The corporate hog producer is required by the courts to install the scrapers which cleans out hog waste on the barn floors and help reduce odor. PSF had a required deadline of the last day of last year to install scrapers in 48 of its barns. Instead, they installed it in 80 barns. PSF president Bill Homann says the scrapers are the best technology the company's found for reducing smells at the hog facilities. Homann says Premium Standard Farms will be reducing capacity at 2 farms in Mercer county and one in Sullivan in order to meet the court requirements to finish installing all new technology at its farms by July 31st of next year. He says 50 to 60 employees at those sites will be transferred to others owned by PSF.
