Deer Harvest Finals

Wayman

MARYVILLE, MO (2011-01-12) The numbers are out for the final deer harvest in the state of Missouri.

It tops 231,000. But conservation officials say that number is down about 6 and a half percent from last year's total. They say our region in northern Missouri is seeing a lower deer population, and the trend is the animals are heading more into the southern parts of the state. They also say more deer are being reported in urban areas now. The department of conservation notes private land owners hold the key to even deer distribution and populations as 93% of all land in the state of Missouri is in private ownership.
