MARYVILLE, MO (2011-01-31) Land owners in our region are being reminded the competitive sign-up period is coming soon to enroll land into the conservation reserve program.
The federal program is limiting the number of acres nationwide that will be in the CRP Program this year, and it's based on the most environmentally-sensitive land. Jonathan Coppess is the national administrator of the farm service agency which oversees the CRP Program. He says there is some information you will need to bring into the FSA Office to sign up especially if you are enrolling for the first time. The CRP contracts are generally for 10 years and your land must have been planted 4 or the 6 years between 2002 and 2007. The sign-up period this year runs from March 14th through April 15th.
