MISSOURI (2010-1-22) The highway patrol covering North East and North Central Missouri is warning residents of a scam they've been alerted to.
They say someone is texting a message to cell phones advising of a problem with their back account. In the text message is a phone number to call to re-activate your bank account. Once that information is provided authorities suspect unauthorized people then have access. The highway patrol is again warning you should never provide such information over the telephone, e-mail, or text message unless you can verify the person getting the information. They say Northern Missouri residents who think they've become a victim of identity theft to contact local law enforcement immediately.
