ST. JOSEPH, MO. (2010-1-14) St. Joseph saw a major jump in violent crime during the last year.
The latest statistics are out, and show the violent crimes category jumped nearly 12% in 2009 compared to the year before. Police in St. Joseph say two areas in particular drove the higher numbers: robberies rose 15% and aggravated assaults were up 13%. St. Joseph police records show aggravated assaults were consistently higher from March through July of last year. 22 robberies in January, June, and July led to those higher statistics. Three crime categories fell in St. Joseph. Those were stealing, vehicle thefts, and arson.
