Shands On Campus

Wayman

MARYVILLE, MO (2009-02-11) An historical figure in the civil rights movement is set to speak in Maryville tomorrow.

Doctor Norman Shands worked with Doctor Martin Luther King Junior to desegregate Atlanta schools.

Shands, who is white, also signed the minister's manifesto in 1957, urging peaceful debate on integration.

He'll be speaking tomorrow afternoon at Northwest Missouri State.

Director of minority affairs at the university Ame Lambert says it's an honor to have him come.

Shands lecture will be at 4 o-clock in the Student Union's main level living room.
