The Northwest men’s and women’s basketball teams swept Nebraska-Kearney in a doubleheader Wednesday evening in Kearney, Nebraska. John Coffey has the story.In other games from the M-I-DOUBLE-A Wednesday night.
The Lincoln women defeated Lindenwood 72-56…it was the Lincoln men with a win over Lindenwood 80 to 65.
Missouri Southern’s women upset Pittsburg State 62-57….meanwhile Pittsburg State’s men in a high scoring game got past Missouri Southern 94-91.
Northeastern State’s women defeated Central Oklahoma 64-58. In the men’s game it took overtime before Northeastern State could defeat Central Oklahoma 83-71 as they outscored Central Oklahoma 15-3 in the overtime.
Fort Hays State swept Missouri Western in a doubleheader in Hays, Kansas…the Fort Hays State women defeated Missouri Western 73-56 while the men posted a 73-57 victory over the Griffons.
Central Missouri also had a doubleheader sweep of Truman State with the women winning 58-56 and the men posting a 76-64 win over the Bulldogs.
Finally, the Emporia State women upset fifth-ranked Washburn 61-48.
In high school state basketball tournament action Wednesday night in Missouri. In Class 3 play from Excelsior Springs…the St. Pius boys defeated the Maryville Spoofhounds 70-64 ending the Spoofhounds season. In the Class 3 girls sectional…Cameron downed St. Pius 63-49. The Cameron girls will take on Stockton in the quarterfinals Saturday at Independence Events Center.
The Class 2 games scheduled for Staley High School in Kansas City were postponed until Thursday when the Albany boys battle West Platte and the Maysville girls meet North Platte.
In Class 1…at Bearcat Arena Wednesday night in the boy’s bracket Stanberry defeated Rock Port 42-34 and will play Welllington Napoleon who defeated North Andrew last night in Lawson 67-45. That match up will take place Saturday in the quarterfinals in St. Joseph. In the girl’s bracket last night. Mercer defeated Mound City at Bearcat Arena 72-57 and will face North Andrew in the quarterfinals in St. Joseph Saturday. North Andrew defeated Wellington Napoleon 67-49 in their sectional game at Lawson.
