Missouri Ladies Military Band Program

Benson

Nodaway County, MO (2013-02-28)

In 1913, a group of eleven women from Nodaway County marched at the head of the Women's Suffrage Parade in Washington D.C.

The group, the Missouri Ladies Military Band of Maryville, was comprised of Alma Nash's music students and was the only all female group to march in the parade on that day. Nodaway County Historical Society board member Melissa Middleswart says on the one hundredth anniversary of the parade, eleven Maryville High School students will present a program to celebrate the achievement.

The program will be at 2p.m. on Sunday at the Nodaway County Historical Society Museum. An exhibit detailing the life of Alma Nash and her band will also be open for viewing.
