Bearcat Weekend Sports Summary

The Northwest Missouri State men's basketball team came back from 10 points down in the first half to defeat the 25th-ranked Washburn Ichabods Saturday afternoon 63-61.

DeAngelo Hailey hit 6 free throws down the stretch to help give the Bearcats the win. Hailey led the Bearcats in scoring with 19 points and six rebounds...Conner Crooker added 16 points and Grant Cozad 11. Bearcat men's head coach Ben McColllum says he liked his team's approach to Saturday's game.

The win snaps a three game losing streak and clinched a spot in the MIAA post-season tournament. The Bearcats improve to 16-8 overall and 9-6 in the MIAA. Washburn falls to 16-6 and 9-5. The Northwest women's basketball team couldn't overcome committing 26 turnovers in losing to sixth-ranked Washburn 61-54. Monique Stevens led the Bearcats with 12 points, five rebounds and six assists. Both Bearcat basketball teams will be back in action Wednesday when they host Missouri Western. The women's games tips off at 5:30 and the men at 7:30. Both games can be heard on KXCV/KRNW beginning at 5:10 with our pregame from Bearcat Arena.

The Bearcat baseball team dropped two of three games to Northeastern State in Tahlequah, Oklahoma over the weekend. After winning the first game 7-5 on Saturday, the Bearcats lost Sunday 7-2 and 11-8. Northwest is now 1-5 overall and 1-2 in the MIAA and are scheduled to open the home portion of their scheduled Wednesday with a doubleheader with Nebraska-Kearney.

The Bearcat softball team is off to the best start in program history winning their first seven games of the season. Competing in Arkansas-Monticello 7-State Classic this weekend, Northwest recorded wins over Concordia-St. Paul, Illinois-Springfield, Southern Arkansas, Oauchita Baptist and Oklahoma Panhandle State. The Bearcats will compete this weekend in the NSIC/MIAA Crossover in Rochester, Minnesota.

The Northwest men's tennis team opened up their season with a 6-3 win over Alabama-Hunstville Friday in a match held at the indoor tennis complex in Red Oak, Iowa. For the Northwest women their season opened with a loss to conference newcomer Northeastern State 7-2 in a match held at the St. Joseph Racquet Club. Both teams have matches scheduled this weekend in Springfield, Missouri with the women facing Drury and Arkansas Tech and the men to face Harding, Oauchita Baptist and Drury.
