Regents Rescinded

Wayman

MARYVILLE, MO (2012-02-03)

The university in Maryville is down two board of regents members after the governor withdraws their names for consideration.

Gene Dorrell and Roert Dowis Both had to be confirmed by the state senate by today, but the senate hadn't acted on that. Since the deadline was not met, the governor has withdrawn their nominations to serve on the Northwest Regent's Board. But Rich Germinder with Savannah senator Brad Lager's Office says that does not mean the two are out permanently.

Germinder says Dorrell, who had been attending board meetings, won't be able vote on the board for the time being. He adds Dorrell has the support of senator Lager for confirmation to the Northwest Board and he will vote for him when the nomination is re-submitted. Lager has publicly opposed Dowis's appointment because of having too many Nodaway county residents on the Northwest Board. Yesterday Lager introduced Senate Bill 681, which would limit the number of Nodaway county residents on the board at Northwest.
