Poverty Simulation

Mullens

SAVANNAH, MO (2012-02-23)

Next Monday the juniors and seniors at Savannah High School will participate in the annual poverty simulation for high school students.

The different scenarios put students through a simulated month of poverty living. In some of the situations they have to file paperwork with different social service agencies, but food, pay for utilities and still go to work. The director of community development for the community action partnership, Lynette Saxton, says they focus on high school students to show the importance of staying in school.

Saxton says this is the 6th year community action partnership has done this program at Savannah High School.
