NODAWAY COUNTY, MO (2012-02-06)
No glaring errors in Nodaway county's finances, but state auditors say there is room for improvement.
State officials recently reviewed accounting procedures of Nodaway county departments. They say fuel purchases and use went up 46% from 2009 to 2010, but neither the road and bridge department or Sheriff's office reconciled mileage and fuel logs to the amount purchased. Auditors found the recorder of deeds was charging copies of records differently to different groups. They also found the Sheriff's Department didn't have written contracts to board prisoners in other counties as required by the state. The Senior Citizens Service Board was also found to be without written contracts when doing business with other entities. Overall the state audit declared Nodaway county financial operations at "Good", the second highest ranking it could get.
