MARYVILLE, MO (2012-02-07)
Missouri senator Claire McCaskill says she has a plan to keep rural post offices from closing.
The senator's ideas include giving the postal regulatory commission binding authority to prevent closures, maintain the current 6 day deliveries, and have small businesses and labor representatives come together for a plan within one year to address long term fiscal sustainability for the postal office. Congress is currently working with the service to review finances, which it says are over budget, pushing the need to close postal facilities in several areas, including some in north Missouri and southern Iowa.
