Northwest Missouri State University celebrates African American History Month starting this week.

A series of events are being held throughout the month, including films, documentaries, topical discussions, and presentations recognizing the achievements of individuals both on campus and in the American culture. Steve Bryant, director of Intercultural Affairs at the university, says African American History should be celebrated year round.

The book "The Help" is available for purchase in the Bearcat Bookstore. Events will begin this evening with the viewing of "The Color Purple" at 7 in the Station West Room. For a complete schedule of events, visit Northwest's website at nwmissouri.edu
