ST. JOSEPH, MO. (2010-2-9) -- Arrests are made in a string of counterfeit check cases that could be tied to stolen mail in the St. Joseph area.
Investigators have brought in federal postal authorities on the case. The St. Joseph police department says a woman was in Weidmaier's truck stop and clerks became suspicious she was trying to pass a counterfeit check. By the time police arrived she was gone, but they did put out a vehicle description, which was stopped on highway 36. Inside they arrested 3 people, found items believed to have been bought with the counterfeit checks, and also charged them on investigation of drug possession. Police say the ring might have included stolen mail and counterfeit checks from not just the St. Joseph area, but also Kansas City and South Dakota. The three arrested are Melinda Talbot, Sarina Simerly, and Marcus Moore all of St. Joseph.© Copyright 2008, KXCV
