Shields On Ethics

MARYVILLE, MO (2010-2-10) A Northwest Missouri leader in the senate continues his push for ethics legislation in the statehouse.

Yesterdray the Missouri senate debated its main ethics bill, sponsored by senate president pro-tem Charlie Shields of St. Joseph. Shield's bill would expand reporting requirements to legislative staff members, provide the state ethics commission with a full-time investigator, and bar campaign contributions when the legislature is in session. Shield's says he has intentionally not put in a re-instatement of campaign contribution limits. A few house republicans have expressed a willingness to put campaign contribution limits in as part of an all-encompassing ethics bill. Senate democrats say there can be no real ethics reform without limits.
