MARYVILLE, MO (2010-2-1) Maryville has made a connection with a small town in Nicaragua and now, big things could happen.
A going-away ceremony was held Friday for 8 high school students from the Central American country. Maryville Native Andrea Tappmeyer is now part of the peace corp and brought them to Maryville for the past 2 weeks to experience American culture and to form a plan to build a hospital in their home community. She says the project has been reinforced because of the Missouri Show-Me support. The 8 students have formed a plan to spur leaders in Nicaragua to build the hospital in their town, which is an hour and a half away from the nearest hospital.
