MARYVILLE, MO (2010-2-25) Missouri's Parents as Teachers program is one of many facing cuts in next year's budget.
Governor Jay Nixon has proposed cutting $4 million from the program in next year's budget. Supporters traveled to the State capitol yesterday to lobby lawmakers not to cut Parents as Teachers which began in Missouri and has since spread nationwide and overseas. House budget chair Allen Icet says, however, reversing the proposed cut is just not likely. Parents as Teachers has already experienced a $2 million cut during the current year because of dwindling State revenues.
