Maryville Scam

Wayman

MARYVILLE, MO (2008-12-04) Maryville businesses are being warned of a check cashing scam in town.

Maryville Public Safety is investigating the fraudulent checks, which are arriving in the mail.

The attached letter asks the recipient to participate in a Wal-Mart program and cash the "money-gram" checks to get cash back.

It's bogus.

The so-called "money grams" have on them the words "resource one credit union" and are for 980 dollars.

Residents have tried to cash them at Wal-Mart and now other places in town.

The Chamber of Commerce warns businesses it's a scam and not to cash them.
