Interstate Designation Change

Totusek

MO (2012-12-07)

U.S. Route 71 is getting a face lift. On December 12th, the route between Pineville and Kansas City will officially be designated Interstate 49.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has been working for the last twenty years to upgrade the route to interstate highway standards by adding new interchanges, overpasses and access roads. Starting on the 12th, drivers will begin to see the interstate shield on mile markers, as well as the Route 71 designation. Outreach Coordinator for the Missouri Department of Transportation DeAnne Rickabaugh says changes to the average driver will be negligible, however, truck drivers and some farmers that use the interstate should look into the newly enforceable regulations.

For questions about the new regulations or to request information about an oversize, overweight permit contact MoDot's Motor Carrier Services at 866-831-6277.
