Tax District Passes

Wayman

ST. JOSEPH, MO (2011-12-06)

Downtown St. Joseph property owners approve a self-imposed tax to make improvements.

Called a community improvement district or CID a majority of property owners have agreed to the proposal. It will create a half-cent sales tax in St. Joseph's downtown district. The plan, announced in September, also called for a half cent property tax and required property owners to approve it. This will bring in about $130,000 each year for improvements like landscaping, additional security, and other services for the downtown district. The tax money will start coming in April first of next year.
