The bad economy and Christmas season means part time seasonal employment for some in our region.

In Maryville, JC Penney's, Walmart, and other stores have been hiring temporary positions to help them during the holidays. Maryville Walmart shift manager Dennis Abrams says they started hiring back in the summer to get ready for the rush. Recently-hired Maryville JC Penney associate Tanya Riley says the availability of part-time holiday employment has supplemented her full-time job just in time for Christmas.

The national retail federation says about 500,000 part-time employees have been hired in the US for this holiday season.
