MARYVILLE, MO (2011-12-14)
It looks like Midwest corner post offices on the potential closure list are safe for the next few months.
After a joint letter from lawmakers to the postal service, it's agreed to hold off closing any postal facilities until at least May 15th. Federal postal officials say this will give them time to implement cost-saving reforms. That could potentially free up enough money to spare some post offices and distribution centers from closing. Meanwhile, lawmakers in congress say they are working on legislation to create necessary reforms to save facilities. More than 20 rural post offices in our Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, and Kansas listening area have been reviewed by the Federal Postal Service as possibilities for closure.
