As Iowa lawmakers return to the statehouse next month, They will be considering a plan that could impact southern Iowa's county-by-county mental health services.
Lawmakers are considering changing that to a regional system. That could cost the state 47 million dollars, but is raising red flags from citizens concerned with convenience in terms of accessing the services they need. Rick Shannon with the Iowa developmental disabilities council says one advantage to taking it out of the county level: services not available locally could be shared regionally.
If a redesigned system is passed by the Iowa legislature, it could take about 5 years to put into place.© Copyright, KXCV
