Graves Report Reaction

Wayman

MARYVILLE, MO (2011-12-29)

Northwest Missouri congressman Sam Graves isn't surprised, nor is he happy, with an independent panel's report on the Army Corps of Engineers' handling of the 2011 Missouri River Flooding.

The panel's report backs up the Corps' position it was not to blame for the thousands of acres of flooded land along the Missouri River. Graves says that conclusion is not surprising, pointing out the Corps appointed the panel's members. He says residents directly affected by the flooding should have been placed on the panel, in order to provide a different perspective.

The Tarkio Republican says Corps officials must take other, recent study recommendations into account in order to prevent similar flooding in the spring and summer.
