Flood Webinar

Wayman

MARYVILLE, MO (2011-12-15)

Several hundred people in the 4-state area got to hear from landowners and experts yesterday on recovering from the Missouri River Flooding.

In the joint webinar by Iowa and Nebraska extension offices, conservation experts to landowners shared their tips. Nebraska farmer Scott Olson lost about 5 hundred acres to the river. Even though he's spent the last 2 months trying to tackle 5 foot crevices by disking, he's already seeing severe wind erosion on the river bottom and predicts the damage will carry through to planting season.

Missouri Valley Iowa farmer Lyle McIntosh lost 2,400 acres to flooding. He's hoping planting cover crops on part of the devastation can fend off the wind erosion next year.Webinar officials are urging landowners to contact their local NRCS or extension offices for more resources and strategies in dealing with the flood aftermath.
