A single case of hand, foot, and mouth disease has been detected in north east Kansas.
The Effingham Unified School District 377 confirms the case of the viral disease that typically affects infants and children under 10 years old. It can also spread to adults. The school district's nurse, Tenille Forbes says there's no vaccine to protect against the virus, but there are methods of prevention and treatment.Hand, foot, and mouth disease is often confused with foot and mouth disease in animals but is not related.
