The freshman senator from Missouri has won a major leadership position in his party.
Republican Roy Blunt was up against a Wisconsin senator for the Republican conference vice chairmanship. Blunt has won that vote 25 to 22. Blunt was thought to be a strong candidate for the party's seat in the senate having also served in the US House and pledging to bridge the gap between the two. A former Blunt aide says the election also puts Blunt in the position of being considered for other posts in the GOP leadership.
